FHG is Hiring a Community Champion (Kent County, Maryland) for the "Beyond Your Mental" Program
Findlay House Global is recruiting a part-time Community Champion for a Kent County Local Management Board (KCLMB) funded project—the student-led and designed behavioral health intervention peer mentoring program known as “Beyond Your Mental.”
The objective of the program is to address the “mentality” that currently drives high-risk behavior among Kent County 8th and 9th Graders.

The Community Champion is a key Findlay House Global project team member.
The Community Champion supports the implementation of Findlay House Global’s Re-Power Development® approach to community engagement and participation by helping to establish rapport with Kent County High School students, administration, Kent County Middle School students and administration, parents, and community stakeholders including KCLMB and Kent County Public School.
The Community Champion will work as part of the FHG Project Team to identify the needs and necessary resources to move implementation of the student-led and designed “Beyond Your Mental” (BYM) peer-to-peer mentoring program forward so that KCHS and KCMS students, parents, staff, as well as local community members are aware of the program; and KCHS and KCMS students have the opportunity to apply to the program if they are interested—particularly, students who have historically been underrepresented (BIPOC, English as a Second Language (ESL), LGBTQ+, Students with Disabilities, and middle students who have a history of needing behavioral health interventions).
The Community Champion will represent FHG externally (“in the field”) but will represent and reflect the perspectives of students and families internally (“at the office”).
Community Champion Responsibilities:
1) Engagement and Participation: Leads community engagement and participation.
Assist with coordination and facilitation of BYM mentoring sessions
Build awareness of the BYM peer mentoring program
Engage KCPS schools particularly KCHS and KCMS to ensure they are aware of and engaged in all aspects of project activities to support FHG in meeting its mission and project goals
Ensures that engagement and participation activities are aligned with FHG’s commitment to ethics and excellence
2) Relationship Building and Communication: Establishes relationships and maintains communication with community stakeholders
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with KEY community stakeholders through relationship building and communication, including: parents, school administration, resource leaders in the community, etc.
3) Reporting: Inputs information including stakeholder information as well as data, statistics, analytics, and metrics related to student and stakeholder engagement
Collect, organize and analyze qualitative (observable) and quantitative (numerical) data
Complete reports on engagement activities (i.e. attendance reports, interview summaries, etc.)
Database maintenance (ensures relevant information is included, up-to-date, and on file for each student participant - example name, email, and phone number)
4) Support Stakeholder Analysis and Content Creation: Leverages the voice and feedback of students to inform content creation.
Assist and prioritize aligning students’ priorities to stated project objectives
YOUR EXPERIENCE (QUALIFICATIONS)
Large network in Kent County that includes families, KCPS school contacts, contacts for community-based organizations, business contacts, etc.)
Deep connections in/to one or more of Kent County’s historically underrepresented student groups (Black students, English as a Second Language (ESL) students, LGBTQ+ students, Students with Disabilities, and students who have a history of needing behavioral health interventions).
2+ years or more demonstrable experience in coordinating and facilitating meetings, trainings, workshops, etc.
Experience in cold calls/interviewing people
Reliable transportation
Excellent communications and presentation skills
Data entry skills
(Preferred) Experience working with Google Drive
(Preferred) Bachelor’s Degree
All candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and be coached, and have leadership and relationship management experience.
