What is O.U.R. Development™?
O.U.R. (Organizing and Uniting to Re-Power) Development™
is an intergenerational leadership academy designed to promote community connectedness and support public participation.
The program brings people with diverse backgrounds together in a safe, collaborative space
where they can connect and address past challenges including exclusion, community harms, and barriers to public participation
and ideate solutions to the current needs within their community.
THE SITUATION
Local government decisions have far-reaching impacts on people's daily lives. However, many community members often feel alienated and excluded from these critical decision-making processes.
People can be reminded that they do not have to accept being passive observers, they can leverage their inherent power and become key drivers of meaningful change.
At a time when advancing inclusive civic engagement is essential, the O.U.R. Development™ program helps to bridge the divide.
Championing Community Ownership
Practical, Hands-On Training
O.U.R. Development™ offers practical, hands-on training in an interactive workshop setting.
Together, participants tackle the barriers of alienation, confusion, and disengagement in public processes.
Program benefits include peer-to-peer learning, networking opportunities, and the opportunity to pool existing community resources together.
Throughout the program, academy members engage with the following topics:
Community Connectedness: Building strong, supportive networks within the community to promote a sense of belonging and mutual support.
Community Research: Equipping participants with the skills to conduct effective research on community needs, resources, and ideas for improvement.
Community Development and Mental Health: Addressing the intersection of community development and mental well-being, ensuring that future development initiatives support the overall well-being of all community members.
Community Mobilization: Training participants in strategies to organize and mobilize community members around shared goals and initiatives.
The academy equips participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively engage with their neighbors in and local government so they can engage in decision-making processes to create a more connected, informed, and re-powered community.
